The Hollywood sign has inspired so many people on earth for about a century. We want to spread the inspiration even more by resending the sign to space, and make it visible from the top view of the city, by reflecting it from the Mirrors House. Our design is the link between earth and space. The V shaped roof of the house is also used to channel rain water to a tank, and to work as concentrated solar power to generate clean energy. We made a home for a small family with two bedrooms, an office to work from home, and a refuge, because with Trump as president the future might be scary.

426556170BILLBOARD OF LIVING |
This Billboard of Living proposes a sectional home that simultaneously reacts to the iconic location and proposes a unique manner of living. Reacting to the role of the Hollywood Sign as a hallmark for the Hollywood Hills, the rectangular shape of the building set into the hills evokes a billboard, another icon and announcement of the area. The expressed elevation reveals a specific way of living - the architecture of each room is determined by its specific program, depicted in the sectional relationship. While the narrow plan separates the spaces, the staggered section puts them into communication with each other.

522180000Integration, Innovation, Iconicity. |
The site is strongly characterized by the wild pattern of the surrounding nature. From here the view is open to the wide landscape, from the hills to the LA urban sprawl.
The sheet music is complex, made up of overlapping signs, located on a fraught ground, characterized by icons of the global collective imaginary. The project is based on simplification, on reduction, on pure forms, on the enhancement of well-being and sustainability. The circle is the representation of these concepts, in analogy with the iconic Hollywood sign and its own shadow projected on the hills. |

- The house is the stacking of a natural swimming pool’s two ponds : the swimming area and the biological regeneration pond for water, using water plants. Both are linked by a pump powered by solar panel.
- Each pond allows natural cooling of the indoor space above, through the concrete’s thermal inertia. - 2 x 1360 sq.ft freeplan floors for maximum flexible possibilities : day/night, living/working or even 2 separate dwellings with shared outdoor areas - The two indoor spaces are circled by a glass peristyle emphasizing the relationship to the 360° view and the more intimate structural core of the house. - Precast concrete structure allows fast construction. The house is a combination of few different elements reduced to the minimum. |

Mulholland House is a horizontal volume lifted on a pedestal. All utilitarian functions (bathrooms, mechanical, structural, circulation) are consolidated within thickened walls that form a nine-box grid with varying dimensions, framing the house as a series of asymmetric rooms paired with unique elements . At the center of the house is a 15x15’ elevator platform that moves spaces from the first floor to the terrace level, a stage that allows residents to enjoy different activities with the Hollywood sign as a backdrop. This freestanding dwelling provides a framework that celebrates the pluralistic character and habits of its residents.
