Located at a gate along the city wall, the intention of this project is to address leftover spaces around the edge of Évora by thickening the city wall. The buildings are a gift to the city, offering new public spaces in the form of a cafe and gardens, situated adjacent to more intimate private spaces. Working studios are arranged in a pair of houses which rise up from a concrete base, with large picture windows which look out to the landscape beyond. The two houses are like little companions, interlocking to make a playful arrangement of different materials, enhancing the feeling of a composite whole.  The space between the two figures strengthens their relationship, giving the buildings a sense of beyond object-ness.
