[ 1 ] Oliver Sacks's Essay "Speak, Memory"
.
Is memory living? Is memory true? Is memory reality?
.
In this piece Oliver Sacks investigates the psychology of memory.
.
“There is, it seems, no mechanism in the mind or the brain for ensuring the truth, or at least the veridical character, of our recollections. We have no direct access to historical truth, and what we feel or assert to be truth … depends as much on our imagination as our senses. There is no way by which the events of the world can be directly transmitted or recorded in our brains; they are experienced and constructed in a highly subjective way, which is different in every individual to begin with, and differently reinterpreted or reexperienced whenever they are recollected.”

[ 2 ] Invisibilia Podcast "Computer or Human? + Thad"
.
Can technology affect the way we fundamentally form and retain memories?
.
Alix Spiegel and Lulu Miller interview Thad Starner, a pioneer of wearable technology.
.
"Think about it. Thad was probably the first man on earth who truly didn't have to ask for directions because like smart phone carriers today, he could access maps on the World Wide Web. His memory was basically endless, and he could provide the most obscure facts pretty much instantaneously, almost without breaking eye contact. Remember, this was the mid-'90s. The iPhone, which gave many of these abilities to the rest of us, didn't show up until 2007." (Alix Spiegel)

[ 3 ] John Hedjduk's built work "House of the Suicide and House of the Mother of the Suicide" and David Shapiro's poem "The Funeral of Jan Palach"
.
How do we as visionaries, designers, and architects unite with the stories around us to communicate events and their impact in an engaging, appropriate, and memorable way?
.
When a political suicide gained the attention of an architect and poet, two different forms of representation, built form and poetry, collided. They interpreted, internalized, memorialized, and collaborated to present the memory of man.
